Ukrainian hackers claim to have breached the systems of Tupolev, a traditional Russian aircraft and weapons manufacturer, and stolen more than 4 GB of confidential data.
The cyber offensive was announced by the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense and reportedly targeted the company responsible for the strategic bombers recently damaged in a drone attack on Moscow. The action marks another episode in the cyberwarfare between the two countries.
Among the stolen information are personal data of employees, engineers’ resumes, internal communications, administrative documents, and company meeting minutes. The hackers also altered Tupolev’s website homepage by inserting an image of an owl holding an airplane in its claws and redirected accesses to the United Aircraft Corporation website.
Sources linked to Ukrainian intelligence claim the intruders had long been infiltrated in the company’s network, gathering strategic information.
Tupolev was not the only recent target. Ukrainian intelligence also alleges having accessed systems of other Russian institutions, including the Ministry of Defense, the Federal Air Transport Agency, and the Federal Tax Service. Documents linked to the Russian secret service were also reportedly obtained, although not all operations have been officially confirmed.

As a symbolic conclusion, cyber experts left an image of an owl with a Russian plane in its claws.
